SebbyNet - WAN - Notice Board

Node notice board:

Access Point: SebbyNet

Status:  Fully operational AP
Plans:
  • Investigate a possible fault with the super pass omni antenna.
Status: tests completed, fault not found
Details: Linking to the omni antenna is no longer possible from the node GQ, linking to the omni antenna from node Meekys is possible and achieves a acceptable signal, but results in extremely poor downlink data throughput. Linking from node JulzNet is possible and achieves a great signal but also results in poor data throughput. The fault could be in the antenna, the coax cable run, the pigtail or in the access point.
One of the tests to determine the fault will involve mounting the AP on the antenna mast to eliminate any loss from the long run of coax cable.
When: A day no later then 31/10/2003
    Affected clients / links: ALL!
Expected down time: Up to 2 hours
    Requirements:
    Two people

  • Stumble for other known access points.
    Status: still be be done
Details: Node SebbyNet is ready to expand by linking to an Adelaide based access point. A link to Air-stream-Pasadena is possible. A better link to Air-stream-Glengowrie could be achieved. Also links to Air-stream-Ridleyton, Air-stream-Skye, Air-stream-Carrickhill and Air-stream-Julia_Farr will be investigated.
When: ASAP, preferably on the same day which the omni antenna is repaired.
Affected clients / links: ALL Directional links.
Expected down time: Up 1 hour
Requirements: One person, quicker with two people

  • Upgrade JulzNet link AP to a Minitar Access Point.
    Status: completed with success
Details: Where possible, the SVEC APs are being replaced with Minitar APs to gain 3dB in signal strength and a easier to use WEB interface.
    When: No later then 2/11/2003
Affected clients / links: Client JulzNet
Expected down time: Up to 10 minutes
    Requirements: One person
    Requirements:
    Collection of Minitar APs

  • Attach a third parabolic antenna.
    Status: completed with success
Details: Node SebbyNet is ready to expand by linking to an Adelaide based access point. Once a access point is choose a link can be established.
When: ASAP, preferably on the same day when stumbling for APs.
    Affected clients / links: ALL!
Expected down time: Up 1 hour
    Requirements:
    Two people
Requirements: 25dB Hills parabolic antenna from Ben

  • Setup a Linux router box.
    Status: still be be done
Details: Node SebbyNet will require a more advanced and secure router box as it's network links expand. High priorities include implementing OSPF routing protocol, some form of QoS and a advanced firewall. Other features include VPN server.
When: ASAP, preferably have first trial of server by 1st of December 2003
    Affected clients / links: ALL!
Expected down time: unavailable, expect many short outages over a few hours as final configuration is completed.
    Requirements: Linux technician
    Requirements:
Replacement power supply for HP box

Node: GQ

Status:  Fully operational node
Plans:
  • Test a link to node Damien
    Status: still be be done
Details: A client in Hendon is interested in linking to our WAN. It will be difficult to get a signal from node SebbyNet due to trees in the golf course. However, node GQ can be used as a relay point. The test will involve mounting an omni antenna at node GQ and stumbling the omni from node Damien. The omni will allow other future nodes North of Node SebbyNet to link to our WAN.
When: ASAP, preferably on a weekday with a start time no later then 1pm or a weekend
    Affected clients / links: nil.
Expected project time: Up 1.5 hours
Requirements: Sebastian to provide the hardware
Requirements: Bernie to provide the replay location
Requirements: Damien to provide the interested node

  • Upgrade SebbyNet link AP to a Minitar Access Point.
    Status: still be be done
Details: Where possible, the SVEC APs are being replaced with Minitar APs to gain 3dB in signal strength and a easier to use WEB interface.
    When: unavailable
Affected clients / links: Client GQ
Expected down time: Up to 1 hour
Requirements: One person, quicker with two people
Requirements: Someone to buy the SVEC access point
Node: JulzNet

Status:  Fully operational node
Plans:
  • Upgrade SebbyNet link AP to a Minitar Access Point.
    Status: completed with success
Details: The current client PCMCIA card will be swapped to a Minitar AP.
    When: No later then 2/11/2003
Affected clients / links: Client JulzNet
Expected down time: Up to 10 minutes
    Requirements: One person
    Requirements:
    Collection of Minitar APs
Node: Meekys

Status:  Fully operational node
Plans:
  • Investigate a possible fault with the link to SebbyNet.
Status: tests completed, fault not found
Details: Linking to the omni antenna from node Meekys is possible and achieves a acceptable signal, but results in extremely poor downlink data throughput. The fault could be in the omni antenna at node SebbyNet, or due to non-clear LOS to SebbyNet
When: A day no later then 31/10/2003
    Affected clients / links: ALL!
Expected down time: Up to 2 hours
    Requirements:
    Two people
Requirements: Qcheck test tool to work between SebbyNet and Meekys
